I am fortunate to have a portfolio career which allows me to indulge broad interests in art, architecture, literature, history, politics, sociology, wine and gastronomy. In addition to playing the trumpet and coaching musicians, I spend each winter as a ski instructor in the French Alps, while in the summer I also manage tours for one of the UK’s leading cultural tours companies.

Music Performance

As a freelance trumpet player, I have toured the world performing with many of Europe’s finest orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and English Baroque Soloists, with many of the world’s great conductors, including Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Nicholas Harnoncourt, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Yannick Nézet-Seguin. I have played on more than 200 recordings and film soundtracks.

Music Education

I have given classes at many of the leading conservatoires and music schools both in the UK and abroad, including the Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music, Chetham’s School of Music, Sydney Conservatoire, and the University of Texas. Former students have won places at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Cambridge University, while others currently occupy positions in leading British orchestras, or are pursuing successful freelance careers. I am an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate examinations at the Royal Northern College of Music.

I competed internationally in ski racing, winning British Masters silver medals in both the slalom and giant slalom events. I also hold the highest qualification awarded in ski instruction, the prestigious International Ski Teacher Diploma. Having taught previously in Austria and Italy, and with the École de Ski Français in France, I now spend part of each winter as an independent instructor teaching private clients in the French ski resort of Méribel. My interest in the innovative methods being developed in sports science informs both my ski teaching and my work coaching musicians.
